Will God bless America?
Some more examples of "the blind leading the blind" (Nov 01)
Since 11 September, numerous Americans and businesses have been displaying American flags on their store windows, cars, etc., evidently in an attempt to express a form of solidarity with other Americans. Although this is quite understandable under these circumstances, it nevertheless disturbs me to see the signs that say "God Bless America" with an American flag in the background. Worshipping national flags is a form of idolatry from God's point of view. Although the values and ideals represented by national flags can mean many different things to many different people, national flags are often used by national leaders to help promote efforts that are downright satanic in nature. Throughout history, the practice of worshipping national flags has proven to be the DEADLIEST form of idolatry ever devised by mankind! Make no mistake about it, despite what our country claims on its coins, our government is presently putting its faith in the teachings and tools of Satan, not God.
The tragedy of 11 September is just another in a very long series of symptoms illustrating why the people of the world need a true world government. In the context of a true world government, criminals like Osama Bin Laden would have no place to hide. Furthermore, in the context of a true world government, the apparent "need" for war or terrorist activities would be no longer be any more credible (or feasible) than the "need" for North Carolina to declare war on South Carolina. But our government (strongly influenced by its Republican leaders in Congress and America's so-called "Christian Right") has been adamantly OPPOSING the implementation of the rule of law embodied in the International Criminal Court and likewise the development of anything else that comes even close to resembling a true world government. Instead, it has been promoting the principle that "might makes right" (i.e. international anarchy). Responses like the destruction of New York's World Trade Center can be expected to continue indefinitely under the conditions of anarchy that our government has helped to create, because that tragic incident has illustrated to all future terrorist wannabes that it doesn't require a lot of resources to exercise destructive "might" in today's world.
As the citizens of Israel have been slowing learning, reliance on the principle of "might makes right" has fallen far short of meeting their needs for peace and security. And as further illustrated by our governments' war in Vietnam and its so-called "war on drugs", the "might makes right" principle has a tendency to "win the battles but lose the war." Such are the ways of Satan.
So what has the current Bush Administration accomplished in its first year? Well, for one thing, it has virtually wiped out the budget surplus that it inherited from the Clinton Administration by giving away ineffective "tax breaks" to people and corporations, investing heavily in an illusionary "National Missile Defense Program", and taking on the role of "world policeman" to combat a group of terrorists. Didn't we learn from the Vietnam War that our nation can't afford to be the "world's policeman"? Furthermore, our economists have concluded that despite the predictions that accompanied the Bush Administration's tax break giveaways, our nation has been in a "recession" since last March. And now the Bush Administration wants to do more of the same ("the blind leading the blind"). One should keep in mind that it was the Clinton Administration's 1993 Budget (which every Republican in both houses of Congress voted against, claiming that it contained the "largest tax increase in history") that played a key role in bringing America out of the recession created by the first Bush Administration. Now that our national debt is on the rise again, it appears likely that the health of our economy is going to get worse before it gets better, and the Republicans in Congress will pay dearly for that in the 2002 and 2004 elections.
However, not all of the news is bad news.
1. Afghanistan's satanically inspired Taliban regime has been brought down, and rightly so. But keep in mind that such an oppressive government could never exist in the context of a true world government. Can you imagine the state government of Ohio getting away with the kinds of things the Taliban regime was doing? It was our beloved "national sovereignty system" and the "might makes right" powers it bestows on national political leaders that enabled a satanic regime like the Taliban to seize power and do what it did. Interestingly, our government's reaction to the tragedy of 11 September shows that its loyalty to the fundamental principles of "national sovereignty" has become far less solid that it used to be, and that is good news. Furthermore, many of our religious leaders have finally begun to challenge the credibility of other religious leaders who falsely to claim to represent God (Allah) while advocating violations of God's two most fundamental commandments (Matthew 22:37-40). A key ingredient for the Second Coming of Christ will be a worldwide recognition that those who claim to represent God while advocating violations of His two most fundamental commandments are in fact LYING!
2. The reaction of many of our politicians to defend the rights of innocent citizens of Arab descent and to challenge President Bush's draconian "anti-terrorism" legal reforms is also good news. By doing so, they are defending the principles represented by our Statue of Liberty. Although our Statue of Liberty is also an idol, the ideals it represents are far more firmly aligned with God's interests than are the ideals represented by the American flag. A bronze plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty reads:
THE NEW COLOSSUS
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land,
Here at our sea-washed, sunset-gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows worldwide welcome, her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities fame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cried she,
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore;
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
November 2, 1883
Remember in the movie "Patton" how George S. Scott stood in front of a giant American flag and advocated "making those other sons of bitches die for their country"? If he had been standing in front of a giant picture of the Statue of Liberty, his appeal would have appeared hypocritical. THIS illustrates an essential difference between these two cherished American symbols.
So! Will God REALLY bless America? History has clearly shown that He will, but only to the extent that our government actually puts it's faith (without restrictions) in God's guiding principles of truth and love rather than in the teachings and tools of Satan.
