Opening the "bottomless pit"

Osama Bin Ladin and the grave the United States is digging for itself. (Nov 04)

As many of you know, this web site is unusual in that it relates the issues of our time to the teachings of Jesus Christ without yielding to Americans' traditional desire to make the worship of national sovereignty appear to be more holy and sacred than God Himself. The time has come to take another look at the 9th Chapter of St. John's Revelation. For a "God's eye view" of the entire Book of Revelation, see my Jan 97 article "What does "The 2nd coming of Christ" REALLY mean?" on www.onesalt.com

Rev 9:1-11 (NKJ)
Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. And their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them. The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

On www.onesalt.com, I have assumed the role of an Abaddon, "a destroyer of evil spirits" (a destroyer of evil but popular concepts). The key to "opening" (recognizing or seeing) "the bottomless pit" is summarized by Jesus Christ in:

Matt 22:37-40 (NKJ)
Jesus said to him," 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Essentially, this means to SEEK THE TRUTH relative to God's commandment to lover our neighbors as ourselves with NO restrictions on our definition of neighbor, as illustrated in Jesus' Good Samaritan parable. Notice that Jesus said, the second commandment IS LIKE the first commandment. That means you can't really love God unless you love your neighbor as yourself, and you cannot effectively love your neighbor as yourself if unless you seek the truth accordingly.

The wings on the creatures in Chapter 9 of Revelation indicate that they are spiritual beings (popular concepts), and their human faces indicate that they are made-made spirits that do NOT conform with God's two most fundamental commandments. The "smoke" from the pit is comprised of such spirits, there are millions of them, and together they hide God's truth and from mankind's perceptions of truth. Their crowns and breastplates represent their glorious appearance (or the fact that people tend to glorify them), but their stingers represent the damage that their misleading guidance tends to inflict on mankind. Or to put it another way, each of these creatures represents a satanically inspired concept that looks appealing "up front" but which tends to not only "go around" but "come around" and "sting" its followers in ways that often lead to physical death as well as spiritual death. Abaddon's role is to expose these spirits to the "light" of God's truth and love.

So, from this point of view (which is also God's point of view as long as those two commandments are followed), let's examine what's been happening lately and relate these things to the future of mankind itself.

1. To being with, there is mounting evidence showing that if they way Americans actually voted for President this time had been honestly counted, John Kerry would have become president elect by winning as many as eleven states that apparently "went to Bush" in the tallies that were "unofficially reported" on 2 and 3 November-in spite of all the well documented efforts by Republican managed election agencies to deny or at least obstruct members of minority groups from voting. Numerous statistical studies have been done based on normally reliable exit poll results, known voting patterns, comparisons of the types of voting machines used, etc., and they all lead to the same conclusion-that the chances that Bush scored higher than Kerry in the actual votes cast as many as eleven states where Bush apparently "won" range from less than one in a thousand to leas than one in a million. Or to put it another way, the probability that Republican election officials managed to fraudulently misrepresent the actual voting results on a massive scale in as many as 11 states range from 999-to-1 to 999,999-to-1. It's a disgrace to find that our news agencies are devoting far more time to the apparent fraud in the Ukrainian Presidential elections than our own elections. This comes as no surprise, considering the blatantly dishonest nature of the Republican campaign in general.

2. http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/112004X.shtml shows how election officials in Florida were caught "red handed" destroying real voting records in order to cover up the fact that they had created fraudulent voting records to back their fraudulently reported voting results. Other studies are revealing the likelihood that hundreds of thousands of "ghost votes" were reported for Bush. Republican election officials in States that have Republican governors have apparently concluded that they can violate any election-related law they want as often as the want without fear of prosecution. With an Attorney General like John Ashcroft, a Republican controlled Congress whose leaders "telegraphed" their intention to cheat by adamantly opposing a requirement that electronic voting machines to have paper trails that would expose such cheating, and a Supreme Court that has a majority of "justices" who have demonstrated that they favor Republican interests over the truth-it appears that those crooked election officials were correct in assuming that they could get away with just about anything. So it appears quite likely that for the second time in a row, our nation's highly dishonest Republican leaders have succeeded in "steeling" a Presidential election

3. As far as the performance of the Kerry Campaign is concerned, they made many of the same mistakes that the Gore Campaign made in 2000 (see my Nov 02 article on www.onesalt.com for a description of those mistakes), but they did have valid reasons to believe that they would win this time (assuming that the votes would be tallied honestly). But Kerry made a HUGE blunder that would otherwise have had him going into the election with a least a 20-point lead over Bush. About a month prior to the debates, I emailed Kerry and pointed out if he really wanted to win the election, he would have to UTTERLY DESTROY Bush's credibility, and that he could EASILY do that, simply by telling the truth himself and challenging Bush's credibility on ALL of the issues. Bush's credibility SHOULD have been the central issues of this presidential campaign. Howard Dean would have DEVASTATED Bush's credibility in those three debates and thereby made it the central issue of the campaign. But Kerry refused to do so; even though Republican ad makers didn't hesitate to use lies and distortions to mislead viewers regarding Kerry's credibility. Evidently, Kerry thought that by simply "winning his arguments" in those debates (which he did) he would win the election. But Kerry's failure to UTTERLY DESTROY Bush's credibility during those debates enabled Karl Rove to successfully sell his highly dishonest but skillfully crafted illusion that George W. Bush is a "sincere man who says what he mans and means what he says" to tens of millions of Americans. If Kerry had succeeded in UTTERLY DESTORYING Bush's credibility, Karl Rove's tactics would not only have failed to work with most those voters, they would probably have backfired by convincing tens of millions of Republicans to vote against "that bold-faced liar George W. Bush.

4. Our news agencies tend to view the blatant dishonesty of the Rove/Bush propaganda tactics as merely "playing the game" or just "running a tough campaign", but Rove/Bush lies have in fact led to the killing and maiming of hundreds of thousands of people (including tens of thousands of Americans). Their lies have also begun to reduce the size of America's middle class towards making our society more like that of a "third world country." For the past fifty years, it has been consumer spending by our nations strong middle class that has kept our basic economy reasonably sound throughout its downturns as well as its upturns. But that's about to change. Two years ago, the Bush Administration attempted to eliminate our national minimum wage regulations. If the Democrats has allowed Bush to get away with that, tens of millions of Americans (especially in the so-called "red states"} would be earning near third-world-level wages by now. If the Bush Administration attempts to do that again, it appears that they may eventually succeed, because America's so-called "free press" is continuing to demonstrate a willingness to not only tolerate whopping big Rove/Bush lies, in many cases they amplify such lies and even add more lies of their own (e.g. The "Fox Republican News Network") in order to make themselves more "popular" with their readers and listeners.

5. IF OUR DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS DON'T TAKE A SAND AND BEGIN CONTINUOUSLY POINTING OUT THAT REPUBLICAN BOLD-FACED LIES ARE IN FACT BOLD-FACED LIES, THEN KARL ROVE'S LIE-MAKING MACHINE WILL ROLL OVER AND FLATTEN THEIR CHANCES OF GETTING REELECTED LIKE A STEAM ROLLER! One of the first bold-faced lies they need to SQUELCH is the Republican lie that electronic voting machines without paper trails can be trusted to accurately reflect how people voted! If our Democratic politicians fail to succeed on this paper trail issue, we can "kiss goodbye" to democracy in America.

6. One of the BIGGEST lies crafted by the Republicans has been that George W. Bush is a "man of God." He isn't. The ONLY issue where he even appears to be following God's commandment of love his neighbors as himself is his anti-abortion position, which he only adopted when it became politically expedient for him to do so. George W. Bush has not only blatantly lied concerning just about everything that he and his Administration has been doing, he has also personally made lie-based decisions that have killed or injured hundreds of thousands of people (including tens of thousands of Americans), gotten our country ensnared in never ending Iraqi and Afghanistan reinventions of the Vietnam War, degraded our nation's environmental protections in ways that will ultimately kill millions of Americans, mortgaged our children and grandchildren's financial futures by increasing our nation's national debt at a rate of nearly 10 percent per year, etc., etc., etc. How can anybody be so gullible as to believe that such a man can be a "man of God"? Apparently, it is because America's satanically inspired "Christian Right" has succeeded conditioning tens of millions of Americas to believe almost anything they are told by anybody who claims to represent God. The reason I say the our "Christian Right" religious leaders are satanically inspired, is because instead of teaching their followers to seek the truth relative to God's commandment to love our neighbors as themselves, they've been teaching ideologies of selfishness and promoting policies that clearly oppose those two commandments (e.g. worshipping national flags, putting faith in US weapons of mass destruction, supporting apostles of deadly "might makes right" principles rather than the rule of law, etc.). Although they claim that they are telling the "truth" because they interpret the Bible "literally", if you examine how they are actually interpreting the Bible (as I have done in numerous articles on www.onesalt.com), you'll see that they are interpreting the Bible just as allegorically as most other people, but their interpretations of the symbols are designed to make national flag worshipping and the concept of national sovereignty appear to be more holy and sacred than God himself. What was really ironic about all this was when George W. Bush was celebrating his apparent victory in front of a room full of cheering, American flag waving Republicans, none of them seem to realize that Bush has been lousy nationalist as well. Bush has never been seriously interested in doing what is best for the nation represented by those flags. Because he lies so often, one must judge Bush by his actions rather than his words. During the past four years, Bush repeatedly demonstrated that he will gladly place the interests of multi-national corporations over the interests of the United States (and American citizens in general) as long as campaign contributions from those multi-national corporations keep flowing in. It was no accident that employment rates in American began seriously deteriorating as soon as George W. Bush took office. Bush's conduct brings modern day relevance to St. Paul's observation that "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" (1 Tim 5). These are the ways of Satan, not God.

7. Some Americans may feel secure knowing that our nation is being led by a disciple of Satan, but history has shown that nations which have relied on satanic means for their continued existence have ceased to exist before long largely for that very reason.

Despite frequent calls by politicians and news pundits to scrap it, our Elector College System performed like a champ throughout this mess. The need to appeal to "swing voters" in a few key states forced Bush to at least claim to support "moderate" positions on many issues (he should be held accountable for keeping the promises he made in along those lines). Notice how the Republicans literally spent millions attempting to portray Kerry as a "liberal extremist." None of this moderation would have occurred if we used a direct popular vote electoral system. In fact, under a direct popular vote, what we would have seen in November 2004 would have been quite similar to what we presently see happening in the Ukraine--angry demonstrations would bring our government to a halt, martial law would be imposed, and many people would be killed. And guess what kind of electoral system the Ukraine is using? Do we REALLY want a political system that typically operates like that?

To fully appreciate the profound and significant benefits our nation has enjoyed due to our Electoral College System, see my Nov 96 article "The Golden Goose of American Politics" on www.onesalt.com

One of the principles taught in our military academies (though not always followed in practice) is the "know you enemy" principle. The past two years showed us that neither Bush's Republican Administration nor Saddam Hussein's Baathist Administration scored well on the "know your enemy" scale, despite the availability of our wondrous modern day technologies. Perhaps we can improve the odds of our success if we make an effort to know our enemy better by examining the complete transcript of a video recently released by another Disciple of Satan, Osama bin Laden. Portions of this video were released shortly before the 2 November elections, but the only place that I was able to find a complete transcript of that video was at:

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/79C6AF22-98FB-4A1C-B21F-2BC36E87F61F.htmFull transcript of Bin Ladin's speech

My search of American news agency web sites found only American-biased reviews of that video; I ended up having to go to the aljazeera web site to get a complete copy of the actual transcript. If this trend keeps up, millions of Americans may soon stop relying American news media for their news.

[As in my previous articles on this web site, my own comments will be enclosed in brackets]

Monday 01 November 2004, 16:01 Makka Time, 13:01 GMT Following is the full English transcript of Usama bin Ladin's speech in videotape sent to Aljazeera. In the interests of authenticity, the content of the transcript, which appeared as subtitles at the foot of the screen, has been left unedited.

Praise be to Allah who created the creation for his worship and commanded them to be just and permitted the wronged one to retaliate against the oppressor in kind. To proceed:

[As you can see, Bin Ladin's perception of God is similar to that of some of the Hebrew authors of the Old Testament. Jesus, on the other hand, taught that we should "love our enemies", "turn the other cheek", etc. Jesus rebuked those around him who advocated violence against the "oppressive" Roman Empire that ruled over them. That's because Jesus regarded all human beings to be his "neighbor", and he recognized it was important to follow the rule of law in order to fulfill this purpose. No doubt, there are MANY in America who would fully agree with Bin's Ladin's satanic claim that it is God's will for wronged ones to retaliate against their oppressor in kind. That's why civilian "militia" organizations are so popular in "Christian Right" areas of our country.]

Peace be upon he who follows the guidance: People of America this talk of mine is for you and concerns the ideal way to prevent another Manhattan, and deals with the war and its causes and results.

[How about that! He's apparently offering the American people an "olive leaf", an opportunity to get out from under Bush's never-ending "war on terror." Unlike Bush, Pataki, and Giuliani, this man is at least willing to discuss the true causes of such problems.]

Before I begin, I say to you that security is an indispensable pillar of human life and that free men do not forfeit their security, contrary to Bush's claim that we hate freedom.

[It's hard to argue against that. Bush, Pataki, and Giuliani are notorious for falsely claiming that the terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center Towers simply because they "hate freedom." Our nation's news agencies have done the American people a GREAT DISSERVICE by allowing them to get away with such bold-faced lies.]

If so, then let him explain to us why we don't strike for example - Sweden? And we know that freedom-haters don't possess defiant spirits like those of the 19 - may Allah have mercy on them.

No, we fight because we are free men who don't sleep under oppression. We want to restore freedom to our nation, just as you lay waste to our nation. So shall we lay waste to yours.

[There you have it from "the horse's mouth." The man who ordered the attack on the World Trade Center Towers and targets in Washington DC did it specifically to retaliate for similar actions inflicted on his friends and "people" by our beloved United States government. The Bush Administration has tried very hard to censor that point-and to an embarrassing extent in doing so. Such are the ways of Satan. As you can see, "hating freedom" had nothing to do with that decision. If anything, in his mind he was furthering the cause of "freedom", but what constituted "freedom" in his mind may differ considerably from what we would regard as being "freedom." That's the problem with the word "freedom." It's highly charged, but its also highly ambiguous as to what it actually means, unless you specifically refer to such principles as "freedom of speech", "freedom of the press", etc.]

No one except a dumb thief plays with the security of others and then makes himself believe he will be secure. Whereas thinking people, when disaster strikes, make it their priority to look for its causes, in order to prevent it happening again.

[That's actually a good point. It is similar to Jesus Christ's teaching to recognize "wolves in sheep's clothing" by observing the "fruits" (results) of their teachings or actions (and evaluating those results relative to God's guiding principles of truth and love). So its important to finally learn what teachings and actions led to the Sep 11 disaster.]

But I am amazed at you. Even though we are in the fourth year after the events of September 11th, Bush is still engaged in distortion, deception and hiding from you the real causes. And thus, the reasons are still there for a repeat of what occurred.

[Likewise, that's a true statement. Note the subtle implication here that contrary to repeated claims made by Dick Cheney, Osama himself is indicating that he would be more seriously inclined to attack us "on American soil" if Bush gets re-elected. Of course, Bin Ladin has promised in the past to strike our homeland again anyway. But the Bush Administration has yet to provide any evidence that Bin Ladin has actually attempted to do so since 9/11. The Bush Administration has been claiming credit for successfully protecting us from an attack that hasn't even been attempted yet, but since this video came out, Bush's highest level appointees seem to be "bailing out" of their government positions like rats leaving a sinking ship. Are they leaving now in order to protect their "perfect records" from becoming seriously stained?]

So I shall talk to you about the story behind those events and shall tell you truthfully about the moments in which the decision was taken, for you to consider.

I say to you, Allah knows that it had never occurred to us to strike the towers. But after it became unbearable and we witnessed the oppression and tyranny of the American/Israeli coalition against our people in Palestine and Lebanon, it came to my mind.

The events that affected my soul in a direct way started in 1982 when America permitted the Israelis to invade Lebanon and the American Sixth Fleet helped them in that. This bombardment began and many were killed and injured and others were terrorized and displaced.

I couldn't forget those moving scenes, blood and severed limbs, women and children sprawled everywhere. Houses destroyed along with their occupants and high rises demolished over their residents, rockets raining down on our home without mercy.

The situation was like a crocodile meeting a helpless child, powerless except for his screams. Does the crocodile understand a conversation that doesn't include a weapon? And the whole world saw and heard but it didn't respond.

In those difficult moments many hard-to-describe ideas bubbled in my soul, but in the end they produced an intense feeling of rejection of tyranny, and gave birth to a strong resolve to punish the oppressors.

And as I looked at those demolished towers in Lebanon, it entered my mind that we should punish the oppressor in kind and that we should destroy towers in America in order that they taste some of what we tasted and so that they be deterred from killing our women and children.

[This was a surprise to me. I had thought Bin Ladin's actions were in response to more recent US abuses of power. As it turns out, this particular sequence of events was triggered by Ronald Reagan's military support for the Israeli occupation of Lebanon. Like those creatures in the first half of Revelation 9, Reagan's decisions not only led to the 9/11 disaster and its dreadful consequences, in a similar manner Reagan's unsuccessful decision to use fighter bombers to try and assassinate Muammar Al-Qadafi led to the downing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie. These are just two of a world history full of examples (spiritual creatures) of satanic actions that have not only failed to accomplish their intended objectives but have also led to deadly satanic reactions as well. Our nation's religious leaders SHOULD be teaching these things?]

And that day, it was confirmed to me that oppression and the intentional killing of innocent women and children is a deliberate American policy. Destruction is freedom and democracy, while resistance is terrorism and intolerance.

[These are also valid points.]

This means the oppressing and embargoing to death of millions as Bush Sr did in Iraq in the greatest mass slaughter of children mankind has ever known, and it means the throwing of millions of pounds of bombs and explosives at millions of children - also in Iraq - as Bush Jr did, in order to remove an old agent and replace him with a new puppet to assist in the pilfering of Iraq's oil and other outrages.

[Again, there is ample evidence to support the points he is making here. George Herbert Walker Bush's decisions clearly did kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children, but whether or not that amounted to "the greatest mass slaughter of children mankind has aver seen" is debatable.]

So with these images and their like as their background, the events of September 11th came as a reply to those great wrongs, should a man be blamed for defending his sanctuary?

Is defending oneself and punishing the aggressor in kind, objectionable terrorism? If it is such, then it is unavoidable for us.

This is the message which I sought to communicate to you in word and deed, repeatedly, for years before September 11th.

And you can read this, if you wish, in my interview with Scott in Time Magazine in 1996, or with Peter Arnett on CNN in 1997, or my meeting with John Weiner in 1998.

You can observe it practically, if you wish, in Kenya and Tanzania and in Aden. And you can read it in my interview with Abdul Bari Atwan, as well as my interviews with Robert Fisk.

The latter is one of your compatriots and co-religionists and I consider him to be neutral. So are the pretenders of freedom at the White House and the channels controlled by them able to run an interview with him? So that he may relay to the American people what he has understood from us to be the reasons for our fight against you?

[So our news media did give Bin Ladin some opportunities to make his case, but evidently he concluded that the American public "refused to listen", so as American abuses of power continued, he figured it would take a disaster like 9/11 "to get our attention."]

If you were to avoid these reasons, you will have taken the correct path that will lead America to the security that it was in before September 11th. This concerned the causes of the war.

[Again, he seems to be offing American's an "olive leaf."]

As for it's results, they have been, by the grace of Allah, positive and enormous, and have, by all standards, exceeded all expectations. This is due to many factors, chief among them, that we have found it difficult to deal with the Bush administration in light of the resemblance it bears to the regimes in our countries, half of which are ruled by the military and the other half which are ruled by the sons of kings and presidents.

Our experience with them is lengthy, and both types are replete with those who are characterized by pride, arrogance, greed and misappropriation of wealth. This resemblance began after the visits of Bush Sr to the region.

At a time when some of our compatriots were dazzled by America and hoping that these visits would have an effect on our countries, all of a sudden he was affected by those monarchies and military regimes, and became envious of their remaining decades in their positions, to embezzle the public wealth of the nation without supervision or accounting.

So he took dictatorship and suppression of freedoms to his son and they named it the Patriot Act, under the pretence of fighting terrorism. In addition, Bush sanctioned the installing of sons as state governors, and didn't forget to import expertise in election fraud from the region's presidents to Florida to be made use of in moments of difficulty.

[Well, at least he was right about the election fraud issue.]

All that we have mentioned has made it easy for us to provoke and bait this administration. All that we have to do is to send two mujahidin to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al-Qaida, in order to make the generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic, and political losses without their achieving for it anything of note other than some benefits for their private companies.

[These are fairly valid points.]

This is in addition to our having experience in using guerrilla warfare and the war of attrition to fight tyrannical superpowers, as we, alongside the mujahidin, bled Russia for 10 years, until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat.

All Praise is due to Allah.

So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah.

That being said, those who say that al-Qaida has won against the administration in the White House or that the administration has lost in this war have not been precise, because when one scrutinizes the results, one cannot say that al-Qaida is the sole factor in achieving those spectacular gains.

Rather, the policy of the White House that demands the opening of war fronts to keep busy their various corporations - whether they be working in the field of arms or oil or reconstruction - has helped al-Qaida to achieve these enormous results.

[That is true. The Bush Administration has cooperated fully with Bin Ladin's attempt to bankrupt the United States. It's also true that the Afghan resistance movement contributed significantly to the bankruptcy and demise of the former Soviet Union. These two highly significant points were barely mentioned, if at all, by our news agencies either before or after our 2 Nov elections.]

And so it has appeared to some analysts and diplomats that the White House and us are playing as one team towards the economic goals of the United States, even if the intentions differ.

And it was to these sorts of notions and their like that the British diplomat and others were referring in their lectures at the Royal Institute of International Affairs. [When they pointed out that] for example, al-Qaida spent $500,000 on the event, while America, in the incident and its aftermath, lost - according to the lowest estimate - more than $500 billion.

Meaning that every dollar of al-Qaida defeated a million dollars by the permission of Allah, besides the loss of a huge number of jobs.

[Actually, the cleanup after 9/11 temporarily increased our nation's employment rate. But Bin Ladin is basically correct in pointing out that it costs at least two orders of magnitude more to militarily protect against terrorist acts than it does to plan and execute terrorist acts-a point which the Bush Administration seems to be incapable of understanding.]

As for the size of the economic deficit, it has reached record astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars.

And even more dangerous and bitter for America is that the mujahidin recently forced Bush to resort to emergency funds to continue the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, which is evidence of the success of the bleed-until-bankruptcy plan - with Allah's permission.

It is true that this shows that al-Qaida has gained, but on the other hand, it shows that the Bush administration has also gained, something of which anyone who looks at the size of the contracts acquired by the shady Bush administration-linked mega-corporations, like Halliburton and its kind, will be convinced. And it all shows that the real loser is ... you.

[Good points.]

It is the American people and their economy. And for the record, we had agreed with the Commander-General Muhammad Ataa, Allah have mercy on him, that all the operations should be carried out within 20 minutes, before Bush and his administration notice.

It never occurred to us that the commander-in-chief of the American armed forces would abandon 50,000 of his citizens in the twin towers to face those great horrors alone, the time when they most needed him.

But because it seemed to him that occupying himself by talking to the little girl about the goat and its butting was more important than occupying himself with the planes and their butting of the skyscrapers, we were given three times the period required to execute the operations - all praise is due to Allah.

[I doubt that there was anything Bush could have done to alter the outcome of 9/11 after the second tower was hit. The passengers in the plane that went down in Pennsylvania do more prevent further damage than anything our government could have done at that point.]

And it's no secret to you that the thinkers and perceptive ones from among the Americans warned Bush before the war and told him: "All that you want for securing America and removing the weapons of mass destruction - assuming they exist - is available to you, and the nations of the world are with you in the inspections, and it is in the interest of America that it not be thrust into an unjustified war with an unknown outcome."

But the darkness of the black gold blurred his vision and insight, and he gave priority to private interests over the public interests of America.

[Another good point.]

So the war went ahead, the death toll rose, the American economy bled, and Bush became embroiled in the swamps of Iraq that threaten his future. He fits the saying "like the naughty she-goat who used her hoof to dig up a knife from under the earth".

[Evidently, he's referring to a Muslim parable of some kind.]

So I say to you, over 15,000 of our people have been killed and tens of thousands injured, while more than a thousand of you have been killed and more than 10,000 injured. And Bush's hands are stained with the blood of all those killed from both sides, all for the sake of oil and keeping their private companies in business.

[That's true, but he could also have pointed out that Bush's decisions have led to an additional 15,000 Americans killed or injured in Iraq and Afghanistan as a result of non-combat related accidents, diseases, etc.]

Be aware that it is the nation who punishes the weak man when he causes the killing of one of its citizens for money, while letting the powerful one get off, when he causes the killing of more than 1000 of its sons, also for money.

[Ironic, isn't it?]

And the same goes for your allies in Palestine. They terrorize the women and children, and kill and capture the men as they lie sleeping with their families on the mattresses, that you may recall that for every action, there is a reaction.

[That reaction SHOULD lead to the establishment of a credible system of justice rather furthering a never-ending cycle of violence as has happened between Israel and the Palestinians.]

Finally, it behooves you to reflect on the last wills and testaments of the thousands who left you on the 11th as they gestured in despair. They are important testaments, which should be studied and researched.

Among the most important of what I read in them was some prose in their gestures before the collapse, where they say: "How mistaken we were to have allowed the White House to implement its aggressive foreign policies against the weak without supervision."

It is as if they were telling you, the people of America: "Hold to account those who have caused us to be killed, and happy is he who learns from others' mistakes."

[These points are not bad.]

And among that which I read in their gestures is a verse of poetry. "Injustice chases its people, and how unhealthy the bed of tyranny."

As has been said: "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure."

And know that: "It is better to return to the truth than persist in error." And that the wise man doesn't squander his security, wealth and children for the sake of the liar in the White House.

[He's not afraid to all Bush a liar, which of course he is.]

In conclusion, I tell you in truth, that your security is not in the hands of Kerry, nor Bush, nor al-Qaida. No.

Your security is in your own hands. And every state that doesn't play with our security has automatically guaranteed its own security.

And Allah is our Guardian and Helper, while you have no Guardian or Helper. All peace be upon he who follows the Guidance.

[So. If you re-read Bin Ladin's comments without my editorial comments, you'll see that although satanically inspired, Bin Laden doesn't come across as a "wild-eyed radical" or a "hater of freedom." Now you can better appreciate why Bin Laden is so immensely popular among tens of millions of moderate Muslims as well as radical Muslims (and why he has been able to convince so many moderate Muslims to become radical Muslims). Bin Ladin's appeal isn't just among Muslims; it includes a considerable number of Europeans, Russians, Latinos, and possibly even some American Tim McVeigh types who may end up becoming "soldiers" for Bin Ladin's cause. It's naive to believe that we'll be able to keep all such people from entering the United States and engaging in terrorist activities. If Bush continues his policies of using our military forces abusively in lieu of promoting the rule of law, then that's precisely what will happen.]

[Now to complete this story, we need to examine another related article. As above, my own comments will be enclosed in brackets. Consider the degree to which these very same principles or characteristics for fascism presently apply to the United States of America under the Bush Administration.]

The following article is from Free Inquiry magazine, Volume 23, Number 2 [Spring 2003]

Fascism Anyone?

By Laurence W. Britt

Free Inquiry readers may pause to read the "Affirmations of Humanism: A Statement of Principles" on the inside cover of the magazine. To a secular humanist, these principles seem so logical, so right, so crucial. Yet, there is one archetypal political philosophy that is anathema to almost all of these principles. It is fascism. And fascism's principles are wafting in the air today, surreptitiously masquerading as something else, challenging everything we stand for. The clich, that people and nations learn from history is not only overused, but also overestimated; often we fail to learn from history, or draw the wrong conclusions. Sadly, historical amnesia is the norm.

We are two-and-a-half generations removed from the horrors of Nazi Germany, although constant reminders jog the consciousness. German and Italian fascism form the historical models that define this twisted political worldview. Although they no longer exist, this worldview and the characteristics of these models have been imitated by protofascist1 regimes at various times in the twentieth century. Both the original German and Italian models and the later protofascist regimes show remarkably similar characteristics. Although many scholars question any direct connection among these regimes, few can dispute their visual similarities.

Beyond the visual, even a cursory study of these fascist and protofascist regimes reveals the absolutely striking convergence of their modus operandi. This, of course, is not a revelation to the informed political observer, but it is sometimes useful in the interests of perspective to restate obvious facts and in so doing shed needed light on current circumstances.

For the purpose of this perspective, I will consider the following regimes: Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Franco's Spain, Salazar's Portugal, Papadopoulos's Greece, Pinochet's Chile, and Suharto's Indonesia. To be sure, they constitute a mixed bag of national identities, cultures, developmental levels, and history. But they all followed the fascist or protofascist model in obtaining, expanding, and maintaining power. Further, all these regimes have been overthrown, so a more or less complete picture of their basic characteristics and abuses is possible.

Analysis of these seven regimes reveals fourteen common threads that link them in recognizable patterns of national behavior and abuse of power. These basic characteristics are more prevalent and intense in some regimes than in others, but they all share at least some level of similarity.

1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism. From the prominent displays of flags and bunting to the ubiquitous lapel pins, the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy, was always obvious. Catchy slogans, pride in the military, and demands for unity were common themes in expressing this nationalism. It was usually coupled with a suspicion of things foreign that often bordered on xenophobia.

[...like re-naming French fries to be "Freedom Fries"]

2. Disdain for the importance of human rights. The regimes themselves viewed human rights as of little value and a hindrance to realizing the objectives of the ruling elite. Through clever use of propaganda, the population was brought to accept these human rights abuses by marginalizing, even demonizing, those being targeted. When abuse was egregious, the tactic was to use secrecy, denial, and disinformation.

[...as we have seen by the apparent approval or at least acceptance by tens of millions of Americans of the torture tactics used by the Bush Administration on prisoners the Guantanamo Prison, Abugarib Prison, and elsewhere].

3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause. The most significant common thread among these regimes was the use of scapegoating as a means to divert the people's attention from other problems, to shift blame for failures, and to channel frustration in controlled directions. The methods of choice-relentless propaganda and disinformation-were usually effective. Often the regimes would incite "spontaneous" acts against the target scapegoats, usually communists, socialists, liberals, Jews, ethnic and racial minorities, traditional national enemies, members of other religions, secularists, homosexuals, and "terrorists." Active opponents of these regimes were inevitably labeled as terrorists and dealt with accordingly.

[George W. Bush believes he has the "right" to strip American citizens and others of ALL of their rights without due process simply by alleging that they are "enemy combatants."]

4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism. Ruling elites always identified closely with the military and the industrial infrastructure that supported it. A disproportionate share of national resources was allocated to the military, even when domestic needs were acute. The military was seen as an expression of nationalism, and was used whenever possible to assert national goals, intimidate other nations, and increase the power and prestige of the ruling elite.

[Isn't it uncanny how accurately this describes the present Bush Administration?]

5. Rampant sexism. Beyond the simple fact that the political elite and the national culture were male-dominated, these regimes inevitably viewed women as second-class citizens. They were adamantly anti-abortion and also homophobic. These attitudes were usually codified in Draconian laws that enjoyed strong support by the orthodox religion of the country, thus lending the regime cover for its abuses.

[Yep! We're headed in these directions as well..]

6. A controlled mass media. Under some of the regimes, the mass media were under strict direct control and could be relied upon never to stray from the party line. Other regimes exercised more subtle power to ensure media orthodoxy. Methods included the control of licensing and access to resources, economic pressure, appeals to patriotism, and implied threats. The leaders of the mass media were often politically compatible with the power elite. The result was usually success in keeping the general public unaware of the regimes' excesses.

[This has indeed been happening within the United States as well, which helps explain how Bush can still appear to be so popular in the United States while people throughout most of the rest of the world more accurately recognize him for what he really is.]

7. Obsession with national security. Inevitably, a national security apparatus was under direct control of the ruling elite. It was usually an instrument of oppression, operating in secret and beyond any constraints. Its actions were justified under the rubric of protecting "national security," and questioning its activities was portrayed as unpatriotic or even treasonous.

[We've seen LOTS of evidence of this kind of conduct from our Republican leaders lately].

8. Religion and ruling elite tied together. Unlike communist regimes, the fascist and protofascist regimes were never proclaimed as godless by their opponents. In fact, most of the regimes attached themselves to the predominant religion of the country and chose to portray themselves as militant defenders of that religion. The fact that the ruling elite's behavior was incompatible with the precepts of the religion was generally swept under the rug. Propaganda kept up the illusion that the ruling elites were defenders of the faith and opponents of the "godless." A perception was manufactured that opposing the power elite was tantamount to an attack on religion.

[We seen LOTS of evidence of these trends as well.]

9. Power of corporations protected. Although the personal life of ordinary citizens was under strict control, the ability of large corporations to operate in relative freedom was not compromised. The ruling elite saw the corporate structure as a way to not only ensure military production (in developed states), but also as an additional means of social control. Members of the economic elite were often pampered by the political elite to ensure a continued mutuality of interests, especially in the repression of "have-not" citizens.

[This is like a biography of the Republican Party in recent years.]

10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated. Since organized labor was seen as the one power center that could challenge the political hegemony of the ruling elite and its corporate allies, it was inevitably crushed or made powerless. The poor formed an underclass, viewed with suspicion or outright contempt. Under some regimes, being poor was considered akin to a vice.

[Although we've seen plenty of comments from America's "conservatives" to this effect, our nations' labor unions are nevertheless "holding their ground" so far-keep in mind that it was labor unions and the GI Bill which were the biggest factors that created a large middle class in America.]

11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts. Intellectuals and the inherent freedom of ideas and expression associated with them were anathema to these regimes. Intellectual and academic freedom were considered subversive to national security and the patriotic ideal. Universities were tightly controlled; politically unreliable faculty harassed or eliminated. Unorthodox ideas or expressions of dissent were strongly attacked, silenced, or crushed. To these regimes, art and literature should serve the national interest or they had no right to exist.

[We're beginning to "Right Wing" efforts in these directions as well.]

12. Obsession with crime and punishment. Most of these regimes maintained Draconian systems of criminal justice with huge prison populations. The police were often glorified and had almost unchecked power, leading to rampant abuse. "Normal" and political crime were often merged into trumped-up criminal charges and sometimes used against political opponents of the regime. Fear, and hatred, of criminals or "traitors" was often promoted among the population as an excuse for more police power.

[The United States has imprisoned a higher percentage of its population than any other nation, and its President is one of the world's leading advocates of capitol punishment.].

13. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Those in business circles and close to the power elite often used their position to enrich themselves. This corruption worked both ways; the power elite would receive financial gifts and property from the economic elite, who in turn would gain the benefit of government favoritism. Members of the power elite were in a position to obtain vast wealth from other sources as well: for example, by stealing national resources. With the national security apparatus under control and the media muzzled, this corruption was largely unconstrained and not well understood by the general population.

[That pretty well describes our present situation.]

14. Fraudulent elections. Elections in the form of plebiscites or public opinion polls were usually bogus. When actual elections with candidates were held, they would usually be perverted by the power elite to get the desired result. Common methods included maintaining control of the election machinery, intimidating and disenfranchising opposition voters, destroying or disallowing legal votes, and, as a last resort, turning to a judiciary beholden to the power elite.

[And now it appears likely that George W. Bush and his friends have successfully employed fraudulent means to steal not just one but two Presidential elections in a row!]

Does any of this ring alarm bells? Of course not. After all, this is America, officially a democracy with the rule of law, a constitution, a free press, honest elections, and a well-informed public constantly being put on guard against evils. Historical comparisons like these are just exercises in verbal gymnastics. Maybe, maybe not.

[This article was published in the spring of 2003. As you can see, since then American has moved even further towards becoming a fascist state.]

Well folks, our future outlook does NOT look bright for the next seven years or so. And it gets even worse when you consider that our nation's "baby boomers", who have been sustaining our stock markets by dumping billions of dollars into them {every two weeks) through their 401K plans, are nearing retirement age now. As they retire, they will begin taking billions of dollars OUT of our stock markets each month, which means that our stock markets are heading for another "Great Depression" within the next 2 to 7 years. The Bush Administration's huge deficits are drastically restricting our government's ability to effectively deal with this problem. Apparently, Bush hopes that by diverting as much as 15% of our younger peoples' Social Security payroll taxes into the stock market, he might be able to compensate for or at least lesson the effects of the baby boomer exodus, but its more likely that our younger people will simply end up losing as much as 70 percent of their Social Security "investments" and still have their Social Security benefits reduced by at least 15% when they become eligible for retirement.

OK. Now let's look at the rest of Revelation Chapter 9.

Revelation 9:12-21 (NKJ)
One woe is past. Behold, still two more woes are coming after these things. Then the sixth angel sounded: And I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates." So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind. Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. And thus I saw the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed-- by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths. For their power is in their mouth and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them they do harm. But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. And they did not repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

Like the creatures in the first half of the chapter, these horsemen-like creatures are spirits (popular concepts), but these spirits DO conform with God's commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves. They get released "to the for winds" when our news agencies finally stop their river of censorship and lies against God's two most fundamental commandments. The creatures in the first half of Chapter 9 are part of a "battle in Heaven" (a spiritual batter among religious leaders). The creatures with their feet on the ground in the second half of Chapter 9 are part of a spiritual battle among men in general. About a third those men will die to their old ways and be "born again" to follow God's guiding principles of truth and love. America's "Christian Right" religious leaders prefer to interpret the "killing of a third of mankind" in this chapter literally, and they have been trying hard to actually make something like that happen by opposing the rule of law and the United Nations, promoting the worship of national flags along with the development and use of US weapons of mass destruction, etc. Although they may eventually succeed in creating a worldwide nuclear war or something like that, it's important to notice that their teachings these days clearly do NOT conform with God's commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves!

So it appears that as a nation we are not likely to fare well at all over the next seven years or so. We may not even exist as a democracy 12 years from now, unless we start holding our politicians, religious leaders, and news agencies accountable for telling the TRUTH relative to God's commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves (without restrictions). Our coins claim "In God We Trust", but thanks to our nation's so-called "Christian Right", it would be far more honest if our coins claimed "In the H-Bomb We Trust." This has got to change if we truly wish to survive.
